Hi

Quick clarification on two types.

4) Four Pairs: Can a digit appear twice in both 8 cell groups?

14) Distances: Are all possible markings given?

15) Clockfaces

Are black and white dots mixed up?

ad Four pairs - Yes, the two groups by eight cells are fully independent.

ad Distances - No, not all possible markings are given in the competition puzzle.

ad Clockafaces - You are right. That is a silly mistake, I use this sudoku type for ten years and every time white means clockwise and black means anticlockwise. I will correct it in the next version of instruction booklet. (I've checked the competition puzzle that white is clockwise as stated in text.)

8). Football
Is that allowed to have two or more same balls on one diagonal pass?
Is that allowed for a ball to be used more than once?

ad Football
No circled player of any team can stand between players N and N+1 making their pass.
Ball used for the pass between players N and N+1 is the digit 8 or 9 that is directly next to player N in the straight line of pass to player N+1.
Rules don't care about the other cells between players N and N+1, there can be any number of digits 8/9 or others if not circled.
Ball used more than once is not forbidden by rules. Maybe that it is possible to construct such puzzle. But it is not the case in example nor in the actual competition puzzle.

Hi, I’m posting a question on behalf of a team-mate:

I think the nonconsecutive spiral example is missing some givens (each diagonal should be 4 givens long, not 3).

I have two reasons for believing this - one is stronger evidence than the other:

1. I can't seem to place even a single digit in the example puzzle
2. It corresponds exactly to a past Krtek's Cup puzzle which had the extra givens (Round 223 "Noncons snake", Puzzle 8)

OK. I will add 4 givens into Nonconsecutive spiral in the next version of IB.
Please take this as a good illustration to the following fact: instruction booklet is here to present the rules, good practice puzzles should be found elsewhere.
